Job Description

 

  • Legal Support and Regulatory Compliance: Provide administrative and drafting support to the department for third-party claims, litigation, mediation, and arbitration matters.
  • Send legal and demand notices to customers in accordance with credit and remedial policies, ensuring immediate attention to defaulting customers.
  • Ensure timely responses to legal notices received from local authorities and customers relating to payment disputes and breaches of contract.
  • Handle difficult customer situations, including visiting hard-bucket cases with the remedial management team.
  • Support remedial teams in the rehabilitation process, including loan restructuring and repossession or disposal of assets.
  • Coordinate with recovery and repossession agencies for defaulting customers by providing legal support and liaising with local authorities.
  • Manage collateral (additional security), including title deeds and secured assets, within the required legal framework and collateral registry requirements.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts and agreements, including vendor contracts, client agreements, and partnership agreements.
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on contract interpretation, risk assessment, and compliance matters.
  • Research and analyze legal issues and regulations relevant to the organization’s operations and industry.
  • Monitor changes in laws, regulations, and legal trends that may impact the organization and provide recommendations to ensure compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and review policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage and protect the organization’s intellectual property, including trademarks, copyrights, and patents.
  • Handle legal disputes and litigation matters, including managing external counsel and representing the organization in court or alternative dispute resolution forums.
  • Assist with corporate governance matters, including board meetings, resolutions, and regulatory filings.
  • Provide legal training and guidance to employees on legal issues, compliance requirements, and best practices.
  • Prepare, maintain, and manage legal documentation, including corporate records, contracts, and statutory filings.
  • Respond to legal inquiries and requests from internal and external stakeholders in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and human resources, to address legal matters and support business initiatives.
  • Ensure that all organizational activities and operations comply with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Assist with general business law matters, including customer issues, procurement, and governance, ensuring legal compliance while supporting smooth business operations.
  • Review and update internal policies to ensure alignment with statutory and legal requirements.
  • Support the implementation of governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) programs.
  • Identify legal risks and propose alternative strategies and mitigation measures. Liaise with relevant departments to ensure appropriate actions are taken.
  • Interpret legal information and conduct training to communicate legal requirements effectively to employees.
  • Assist in training employees on new processes, ensuring effective implementation and fostering a strong compliance culture.
  • Provide standard legal opinions and assist with updating local and foreign statutory records. Organize and attend meetings, prepare agendas, record and circulate minutes, formulate decision matrices, and follow up on action plans.
  • Assist management with customer onboarding processes, including due diligence and vetting. Review, analyze, and discuss amendments to Standard Terms and Conditions (STCs) with customers.
  • Conduct warehouse visits for investigations related to breaches of contract to defend and limit organizational liability. Manage contracts and maintain strong relationships with customers and suppliers/service providers.
  • Perform other legal duties and responsibilities as assigned by senior management.
